Write with AI and the offer profile

Write with AI drafts emails from facts you gave Ballast and nothing else, so a draft never claims a customer, a number or a feature you didn't write down. Drafts arrive turned off; you read them and decide.

Ballast is cold email software with every feature on every plan. Connect unlimited mailboxes, send sequences at a pace your domains survive, and handle replies in one inbox, priced by the emails you send.

The offer profile

One per workspace, in Settings, Offer profile. You may have filled it in during setup. Every draft is built from it:

FieldExample
CompanyNorthwind Payroll
What you sellPayroll software for restaurants with hourly staff.
Who it's forOwners and operations managers of restaurant groups with 3 to 30 locations.
The problem it solvesTips and overtime get worked out by hand in a spreadsheet every week.
Proof points140 restaurant groups use it, Bella Pasta cut payroll prep from 6 hours to 40 minutes a week
What you ask forA 15 minute call next week
Never claimWe don't do tax filing, Don't mention pricing

Plus a tone: Plain and calm, Friendly, Short and direct, Formal. What you sell, who it's for and the problem are required. Proof points are the only numbers and customer names a draft may use, so put real ones there.

Fill from your website reads your homepage and drafts the empty fields. Nothing is saved until you press Save.

In the campaign editor

The Write with AI menu sits next to Variable in the editor toolbar:

  • Rewrite: a new version of the email you're on.
  • Make it shorter: aims for about two thirds of the words, never below the checklist's minimum. If there's nothing to cut, it says so instead of trying.
  • New angle: the same offer from another direction. Add an angle and notes on the persona if you like.
  • Draft whole sequence: up to 5 emails with waits between them.
  • Offer profile: edit the facts without leaving the editor.

On an empty campaign the drafted steps fill the sequence. Otherwise every result is a new variant, turned off, next to yours. Your existing text never changes. A drafted variant shows any checks it still fails and a Turn on button.

What every draft must pass

  • The content checklist: length, one question, no spam words, no images, spintax for variety.
  • Only variables a lead can fill: built-in fields, your custom fields, signature and unsubscribe.
  • No number that isn't in your offer profile.
  • The first email has no links and ends with {{signature}} and {{unsubscribe}}.
  • Subjects of 2 to 5 words about the reader's problem or company, never the product category.

A draft that fails goes back to the model once with the problems listed. Whatever still fails is shown on the variant, never hidden.

Models, limits and your data

  • By default drafts run on Ballast's OpenAI and Google Gemini accounts, on their cheapest current models, with the second as a fallback when the first is down.
  • What the model gets: your offer profile, the angle and persona notes you typed, the email being rewritten with the campaign's other steps, and the names of your custom fields. No lead data: variables stay as placeholders.
  • Fill from your website sends the text of your homepage to the model.
  • On Ballast's accounts each plan includes a number of drafts a month, reset with your emails: Starter 300, Growth 1,000, Pro 2,500, Scale 5,000, Agency 10,000. One request is one draft, a whole sequence included, and a draft that fails is not counted. Settings, Billing shows how many are left.
  • With your own OpenAI or Gemini key there is no monthly limit, the text goes only to your provider, and you can pick a stronger model.
  • Either way, up to 30 drafts an hour per workspace.

The drafts are a start, not a finished campaign. They tend to read a little stiff: change the opening line to something only you would write.
